Hematologic Malignancies

چکیده
Touch MEdical MEdia 43 Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable plasma cell disease that comprises 1 % of all cancers and 10 % of hematologic malignancies. It primarily affects older individuals—the median age at the moment of diagnosis is 70 years—and two-thirds of multiple myeloma patients are over 65 years of age when they are first diagnosed. The outcome of MM patients has significantly improved in the last decade. However, the main benefit has accrued to young patients, due to the introduction of high-dose therapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (HDT-ASCT) that are upfront and novel agents as rescue therapy, while only a marginal change has been observed in patients older than 65 years. However, the availability of new frontline treatment regimens based on the novel agents thalidomide, bortezomib, and lenalidomide has extended the options for transplant-ineligible MM patients.

Fungal Infections in Pediatric Patients with Hematologic Malignancies
As the data on the epidemiology and outcome of fungal infections in children with hematologic cancer are limited especially in Iran, this study was aimed to delineate the epidemiologic features and outcome of fungal infections in this population. The medical records of all children with hematologic malignancies diagnosed with a fungal infection from 2005 to 2010 at a tertiary pediatric hospita...
متن کاملCAR T-cell Therapy of Hematologic Malignancies: An Update in Targeted Antigens
Immunotherapy with genetically engineered T-cells that express the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) has raised hopes for the treatment of pediatric malignancies. Although CAR T-cell development is on a fast-moving pace and evolution, the context of exploring novel targetable antigens has been neglected. In this review study, we analyze the prominent hematologic antigens targeted by engineered T-...
متن کاملComplications of patients with hematologic malignancies in a selected Iranian population
Background: Hematologic malignancies in childhood and their treatments can cause dental anomalies and jaw bone abnormalities; therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of these disorders in children. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on all children diagnosed with hematologic malignancies that referred to in Amirkola Children’s Hospital from 2011 to 2018. Al...
متن کاملThe spectrum of hematologic malignancies involving the pancreas: potential clinical mimics of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
Hematologic malignancies often involve the pancreas, causing potential diagnostic pitfalls and, rarely, potentially avoidable surgical resection. We review the spectrum of hematologic malignancies involving the pancreas and describe features useful in preoperative distinction from adenocarcinoma. Archived clinical, pathologic, and radiologic data (1965 to present) for hematologic malignancies i...
متن کاملExtracorporeal Life Support in Patients with Hematologic Malignancies: A Single Center Experience
BACKGROUND Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) in patients with hematologic malignancies is considered to have a poor prognosis. However, to date, there is only one case series reported in the literature. In this study, we compared the in-hospital survival of ECLS in patients with and without hematologic malignancies. METHODS We reviewed a total of 66 patients who underwent ECLS for treatment ...
متن کاملThe role of protein kinase C-alpha in hematologic malignancies.
In recent years advances in histopathological and molecular understanding of hematologic malignancies have led to the development of drugs which selectively target proteins associated with hematologic tumorigenesis. One such targeted agent is the antisense oligonucleotide aprinocarsen, which specifically inhibits the signaling protein, protein kinase C-alpha (PKC-alpha). Although PKC-alpha has ...
